Dr. Megan Boutin

Dr. Megan Boutin is the Adjunct Professor of Trombone at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. She received her bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Ithaca College, Master of Music degree in Trombone Performance in Literature from the Eastman School of Music, and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Principal teachers include Dr. Harold Reynolds, Mark Kellogg, Dr. John Marcellus, and Dr. Nathaniel Brickens.

Based in Austin, Texas since 2012, Megan Boutin is currently the principal trombonist with the Temple Symphony Orchestra, and also served as principal trombonist of the Austin Civic Orchestra and with the Tri-Cities Opera Company Orchestra (Binghamton, NY). As a freelance trombonist in and around Austin she has performed with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Austin Opera, Central Texas Philharmonic, and the Georgetown Palace Theater, as well as with local bands.  

Dr. Boutin is active as a soloist and chamber musician. She was the winner of the 2019 International Women’s Brass Conference Tenor Trombone Category II solo division, and was the third-place finalist of the IWBC’s overall final round solo competition. As the winner of the Austin Civic Orchestra’s concerto competition she performed the Grondahl Trombone Concerto with the orchestra. Additionally as a soloist, Dr. Boutin was featured as a guest artist as part of the Eastman at Washington Square Concert Series. As a chamber musician Dr. Boutin has toured with the Mirari Brass Quintet as part of their fall 2018 tour series, performing as a featured group at the Lakewood Cultural Center, for school groups, and for Colorado Public Radio. She was invited to perform at the Music By Women Festival in 2018, and was also invited to perform as a collaborative musician as part of the Butler University (Indianapolis, IN) faculty recital series. 

Dr. Boutin has performed at festivals at conferences and festivals throughout the United States. She was an invited guest conductor at the 2019 International Trombone Festival. As a member of the Eastman Trombone Choir, winner of the Emory Remington Competition, she has performed at the 2011 International Trombone Festival, and also has performed at ITF with the University of Texas at Austin and Ithaca College trombone choirs. She has performed at the American Trombone Workshop with both the Ithaca College and Eastman trombone choirs. 

Teaching has consistently been part of Dr. Boutin’s musical career. She has given masterclasses at Ithaca College and been a guest artist at the University of New Hampshire Summer Youth Music School. Additionally she maintains a private studio as a lesson instructor for the Leander and Round Rock Independent School Districts.
